meaning of dreams relationship

My ex-girlfriend and I broke up about a year ago after a year-long relationship. It was over cultural issues, and we continued to hurt each other and argue after it. Very painful period in my life, if not the most. When we went to different colleges, and i asked if we could just move forward, she decided to cut off all communication. I dreamed about her sparsely off and on, but recently, every other dream has been about her. I hate them, becasue they are making me relive the most painful parts of my life. All I want is explanation and a means to stop them
